Spending time on the river has been a challenge this Spring. Frequent and heavy rains have consistently placed levels above enjoyable. After a week span of calm weather, Rodger, from Durham NC, joined me for a Haw River float.

Some days the fly carries more of an advantage that conventional tackle. Today was not one of them. The Bass were hugging the banks, in and around logs and limbs, a difficult place not only to get a fly in but also get a fly back out. Rodger is a die-hard fly guy and I tip my hat to his casting skills and persistence. Only Redbreast Sunfish were willing to come out from cover to meet his flies.

Carp were high in spawn mode. Once they’re done getting their groove on, we’ll be back ready to feed your pucker faces.

Thanks Roger for the handmade foam poppers. Look forward to giving them a whirl.
